I took advantage of the Christmas break to try out some new games. I was briefly taken with Rolondo, the wonderfully realised puzzler with a Mr Scruff soundtrack. It’s a game I could love, were it not a complete and utter rip-off of Locoroco on the PSP, all the way down to the Japanese-cute graphics and sound effects.

Flick Bowling on the iPhone

But the game that’s been enganging me most, and that has had me hooked all through January, is the biggest life-waster of them all: Flick Bowling. The concept is as simple as it sounds: ten-pin bowling where you control direction, power and spin by the power of your flick. It’s terrifyingly addictive, and has enough subtleties on the ‘difficult’ setting to stand up to repeated playing. And again. And again. And again. I speak from experience.

I’m a big fan of repetetive casual games – whenever I’m testing a Nokia phone the first thing I do is install the free YetAnotherTetris app – so Flick Bowling is right up my highly polished alley. And because a single match takes no longer than 3 minutes, you can fit some flicking in between whatever you’re doing. Or, in my case, fit whatever I’m doing in between some furious flicking.

Enough: if you have an iPhone or iPod Touch, download Flick Bowling. If you don’t, buy one.
