Wow. Now that’s a refreshing ad campaign: the Evening Standard has big posters saying ‘Sorry for losing touch’ around London.
Hopefully with a new owner, the Standard will begin to do what it always should have done: celebrate the many joys of life in the metropolitan sprawl. Instead of being a mini-Mail.
It could be too late, though. The rejuvinated Evening Standard will have to offer something mighty compelling if it’s going to head off the threat of London’s 3 free papers. Perhaps they’re hoping the recession kills off the ad-funded freebies, as it’s already killed Sport magazine.
Whatever, I wish the Standard well. I’ll try to forgive – even if I can’t forget the role the paper played in the election of Boris Johnson.
